Project
We designed and illustrated the packaging to look as luxurious
as the chocolates inside this three-foot-long chocolate box, to
encourage point-of-purchase sales.
We illustrated one of each of the 12 kinds of molded Belgian chocolates
inside the box.
For the background, we painted iridescent, copper-colored acrylic
paint thickly onto printmaking papers, scanned the papers, and
stitched the images together in a computer program, where we
colored the illustration and applied a transluscent, yellow-gold
blend to run the length of the box.
The client custom builds wooden display racks for the boxes, so
that the boxes stand vertically in the racks and don't take up
a lot of floor space.
The gourmet, speciality chocolates have become one of the top-selling
products for the client.
Each box of chocolates retails for about $20 US. The first batch
of 10,000 boxes sold out in the first few months after the product
was released (for total sales of the first batch of about $200,000).
