Project
We illustrated this map of Savary Island, British Columbia,
including the 53 small illustrations of plants and animals that
adorn the border and water areas of the map.
We also designed the map and drew the inset map in the lower
left corner, showing the cliffs on the island.
Working in conjunction with the client, we made some of the
decisions about what was shown on the map.
The purpose of the project was to draw people's attention to
the ecologically common and significant aspects of the island,
as well as the commercial, cultural and historic aspects.
We had the map printed as a high-resolution inkjet print, got
it framed and shipped it to join a touring exhibition of similar
maps of southern British Columbian coastal islands in the summer
of 2001.
The client then wanted plastic, laminated placemats of the image.
We were hired to design the placemats (including text and graphics
on the back).
